Each substance is tested individually over a five-day process. Using a cutoff of 50 PG/MG, samples are automatically tested again should the result be inconclusive or positive. Results are determined individually within the total 12-panel testing process. The results will show any available quantitative data available.

How does a hair test work?

Customers are mailed a sample collection kit, with clear instructions and a pre-paid return envelope. Once received, the lab requires five business days to fully process the sample. Once results are ready, you will be emailed the results to the email address that was used to place the original order.

What substances do you test for?

Tests for substances, including:AMP, MET, BAR, BZD, THC, COC, PCP, OPI200, OXY, MTD, BUR, FYN, 6-AMProvides a 90-day detection window for long-term insight.

Important note: Hair testing helps assess repeated or ongoing use over time. It is not designed to detect recent or isolated use, and some substances — including THC — may show inconsistently. For recent-use concerns, instant testing may be more appropriate — which is why we include one for free :)

How far back does the test detect use?

The hair test can access results from as far back as 90 days. However, certain substances may metabolize before they can become absorbed by the hair, depending on body composition.

What are the cutoff levels?

The cutoff levels for all 12 substances are 50 PG/MG.

How long does it take to get my results?

  • Hair Test: Lab results are typically available within 5 business days after the sample is received.
  • Instant Drug Tests: These tests provide real-time results, so no lab processing is needed.

How long does it take to get my results?

For kits purchased prior to 1/7/26, you will use the 8-digit pin that was provided with your test kit. Our support team also has record of that pin if you elected us to store it during your checkout process.

For kits purchased on 1/8/26 you will receive an email from our support team with the test results. The results will only use your 4-digit DONOR ID number.

How does the process work?

When you purchase a hair test, you will be sent a sample collection kit. Follow the instructions to collect the hair, and send it back via the pre-paid envelope. Please follow the instructions and provide sufficient hair to complete your analysis. Tests that are ruled "user error" by the lab are not eligible for a refund. Once the lab receives your sample, the results will be posted within approximately five business days.

How does shipping work?

Shipping is free on all orders. You will receive a tracking number once your order is shipped. Shipping typically takes 5-7 business days. You can upgrade your shipping to 2 days in the checkout process.

Are your tests for medical use?

No, KNOWN tests are for educational purposes only. If you have any concerns about the results, we recommend consulting with a licensed medical provider.

Can my test be used in legal matters?

KNOWN tests are for educational purposes only and are not intended for legal use. For legal concerns, we recommend consulting with a licensed medical professional or legal advisor.

How does international shipping work?

Customers are responsible for paying for international shipping at checkout. Additionally, customers will receive an addressed lab sample envelope, but will need to purchase their own postage to return it back to the USA for analysis.

Do I need any equipment to test at home?

No special equipment is needed. The lab-certified hair test is designed for easy, at-home use and include step-by-step instructions. All materials are included with your order -- except for scissors.

How can I track my sample back to the lab?

Keep your UPS tracking number to track the package's return to the lab. Once the lab receives it our support team can track its progress. Please email support@knownathome.com to get an update.

How do refunds and returns work?

We’re happy to accept returns within 30 days of delivery, provided the item is still sealed and unused. To keep things safe and fair for everyone, here’s what needs to stay unopened:

  • Hair test pouch (the blue security seal must still be intact)
  • Instant test (sealed in its original sealed, packaging)
  • Large, white envelope intact (blue seal unbroken)

Due to the nature of testing products, we can’t accept returns on items that have been opened—your safety is our top priority.

Once we receive your return, we’ll refund your original payment method, minus a small 10% restocking fee to help cover shipping and repackaging costs, within 5 business days.

Options for shipping back returns: 

  • Place a return-to-sender label on the original, unopened mailer
  • Purchase your own shipping (if you opened the mailer) to ensure you can track it
  • Request a return label from us (via e-mail) *possibly reducing your refund based on shipping costs

Damages and issues
Please inspect your order upon receipt and contact us immediately if the item is defective or damaged, or if you have received the wrong item, so we can evaluate the issue and make it right.

Exceptions / non-returnable items
Any tests that have been opened from their manufacturer-sealed or Known-sealed packaging are not eligible for return. 

 

Are there any additional or hidden costs?

No, there are no ongoing costs after purchasing any tests. The Solution Lab is accessible for one year from the date of your purchase -- and will not auto-renew.
